Madurai’s Sundaresh Kamaraj Builds Elysium Groups with Education and AI at Its Core
Sundaresh Kamaraj is an Indian entrepreneur and technology professional known for establishing Elysium Groups in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He serves as the group’s Founder and CEO and has built his professional career around information technology, technical education, artificial intelligence, software solutions and skill development.
His entrepreneurial journey began in 1999 with the formation of Elysium Technologies. Kamaraj reportedly invested ₹20,000 to establish the company and started the venture without external investors. In the initial phase, he worked across several functions of the business, including engineering, sales, training, accounting and customer support. His experience as a hands-on entrepreneur helped shape the direction of the organisation as it expanded into additional technology and education activities.
Kamaraj developed an interest in electronics at an early age through his family. His father repaired radios and television sets, giving him opportunities to observe technical work. His childhood also included practical responsibilities. At the age of 13, while studying in the eighth standard at a government high school, he delivered milk and newspapers before and after classes to help contribute to his household. He subsequently explored small-scale entrepreneurship by operating a shop and a milk distributorship.
His academic journey continued alongside professional work. He completed a Diploma and B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering through part-time education and later earned an MS in Information Technology. During this period, he worked as a computer networking tutor to support his studies. His corporate experience before entrepreneurship included work as a computer network engineer, with professional exposure at Pioneer Groups and IBM Corporation involving network architecture and security.
Elysium Groups has since developed a portfolio of businesses and programmes covering IT education, certification, embedded systems, software, ERP, artificial intelligence, digital services and skill training. Elysium Academy and Elysium Embedded School are focused on technical education, while EiBS is associated with software and digital solutions. PhDiZone supports research scholars, ElysiumPro provides project-related training, and initiatives such as UpSkill365 and Elysian Skill Training focus on employability and workforce skills.
Kamaraj is also involved in publishing and professional knowledge sharing. His profile states that he has authored more than 20 e-books and two physical books, produced over 500 articles and conducted more than 200 seminars and workshops. Seven or more patents are also listed among his professional achievements.
His stated vision is to grow Elysium Groups into a ₹1,000 crore organisation with more than 5,000 employees, while expanding technology education and career-oriented skills for students, professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs.
Vision: a ₹1,000 crore company with 5,000 people
Sundaresh Kamaraj has set a target of growing Elysium Groups into a ₹1,000 crore company with more than 5,000 people. The plan rests on three pillars: tech education, AI solutions and skill development, with a focus on rural and first-generation learners.
“I built the first ₹100 crore with courage. I will build the next ₹900 crore with people,” he says.
His stated aim is that a student from a small village in Tamil Nadu should be able to reach global opportunity without leaving home.
